  • Elaine Ambrose Congratulations, Tony Doerr
    Written by Elaine Ambrose

Congratulations to author Anthony Doerr for winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel All the Light We Cannot See. Finalists for the acclaimed prize included Joyce Carol Oates. Doerr’s best-selling book tells the captivating story of a blind French girl and a young German soldier during World War ll.

At the book’s premiere party last year in Boise, Doerr explained how he took several years to research and write the novel. He researched, traveled, wrote, and reworked sentences for more than a week just to complete one particular paragraph. His attention to detail, character, setting, and story sets him apart as one of the world’s great writers.

Doerr was a speaker at the 2010 “Write by the River” writer’s retreat sponsored by Mill Park Publishing. At the retreat, he spoke about the writing process, and he visited with each attendee. We are honored to have him in our area.

The next writer's retreat is May 1-3 in Garden Valley.
